Species & Seasons

SHEEPSHEAD

  • Also known as "convict fish" because of its vertical white & black stripes and it's ability to steal a fisherman's bait
  • Main diet is crustaceans
  • Teeth similar to human molars
  • Some of the best table fare with delicious, white flaky meat

GROUPER

  • Gag, red, and true black grouper
  • Meanest fish in the bay
  • Most commonly found around structures such as docks, bridges, reefs, etc.

KINGFISH

  • 3rd fastest fish in the ocean.
  • Averages 5-25lbs. with fish up to 50lbs.
  • Long drag peeling runs
  • Good table fare grilled or smoked

TARPON

  • Ultimate sport fish
  • Powerful runs, spectacular jumps and can reach sizes up to 8 feet long and over 200lbs.
  • Giant schools of migrating fish

SNOOK

  • Captain Greg's all-time favorite fish
  • Florida's most sought after game fish
  • Finicky
  • Like a large mouth bass on steroids!
  • Great target species for night trips

POMPANO

  • Very spunky and hard fighting fish for it's size
  • Readily available to catch on artificial lures
  • Arguably the best table fare

KINGFISH

SPANISH MACKEREL

  • Smaller relative to the Kingfish
  • Schooling fish
  • Good table fare

MANGROVE SNAPPER - "MANGOS"

  • Great table fare
  • Readily available in-bay to off-shore
  • Fun fishing for all ages


HOGFISH - "HOG SNAPPER"

  • Not a snapper but in the wrasse family along with parrot fish
  • They get their name because of the shape of their face and mouth
  • One of the mildest, whitest meats prized by locals and visitors alike.

WHITE GRUNTS

  • Party boats refer to these fish as "grey snapper".
  • Easily available just off the beach on hard limestone bottom
  • Congregate in large schools for hours of non-stop catching
  • Great table fare

PORGIES

  • Caught fishing for hogfish and grunts
  • Close relative of the sheepshead
  • Table fare comparable to the hogfish
